Heart of the South West Trading Standards Service.
Salary Range: Grade F (£33,024 – £36,648) or G (£37,336 – £41,418) per annum depending on qualifications and experience. A market supplement of £3,000 per annum is currently available to those officers on Grade G. Newly qualified officers are welcome to apply and would start on Grade F with full training and support given to progress to Grade G through our Career Progression Scheme.
Office Base: We have offices in Barnstaple, Exeter, Kingsteignton, Plymouth, Torquay and Wellington and offer a combination of home and office working.
About Us:
The Heart of the South West Trading Standards Service is an ambitious and forward thinking Service, jointly commissioned by Devon, Plymouth, Somerset and Torbay Local Authorities. We are one of the largest Trading Standards Services in the Country, covering two stunning coastlines; Dartmoor and Exmoor National Parks and multiple areas of outstanding beauty as well as the cathedral city of Exeter, the historic port of Plymouth, the English Riviera and the county town of Taunton.
We undertake every aspect of Trading Standards activity and strive for innovation in our approach to regulation and Service delivery, providing both first class customer service to the public and excellent opportunities and benefits for our staff. The successful candidate will be expected to complete enforcement and regulatory duties across a wide range of Trading Standards legislation. Our Service priorities for the year ahead include tackling rogue traders, scams and illicit tobacco alongside taking appropriate action to ensure food allergens and standards are maintained. All of our officers are expected to share their knowledge and skills across the Service. If successful, you will join us in delivering a wide variety of work including high priority food and safety inspections, engaging in multi agency work and dealing with complaints through a variety of bespoke advice, visits and appropriate enforcement action, including prosecutions in line with our enforcement policy.
We can offer flexible/hybrid working. There is an expectation that you will be able to attend meetings in person when required as well as carry out visits across our Service area. As we cover a large geographical area, travel is to be expected.
